The Digital Studio employs many talented tutors who teach students both inside and out of the Digital Studio’s tutoring space. One way that tutors educate outside of the Studio space is through workshops. The Digital Studio also collaborates with various clubs and organizations on campus, such as the Archimedes Initiative and the semi-annual EGR120 poster competition.

Slideshow Presentations
Slideshow presentations are visual tools used to support a verbal presentation. According to Alley and Neeley (2005) a well-structured presentation is based on three assumptions: visual aids are needed for parts of a verbal presentation, the purpose of each slide is to enhance the audience’s understanding (slides are not the speaker’s notes), and slides are not handouts. You can also use live teleconferencing, like Zoom, to present (see this tutorial from the Digital Studio for Zoom basics!).

Research Posters
Research posters are often used to communicate and present the summarized results of one’s research to the academic community and broader audience. Therefore, posters should be designed to communicate results concisely, visually, and attractively, especially to generate discussion and feedback from others. In addition, Infographics are often utilized with research posters for graphic visual representation of information, data, or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. An effective poster can make a strong impact, so it’s worth developing poster planning skills. Here are some tips in designing effective research posters.

Videos
Videos can provide a unique method of engaging an audience and presenting information. It’s important to note that there are several steps in recording videos: 1) storyboard/outline; 2) write a script; 3) shoot/collect footage, images, and music; 4) draft the video; 5) edit the video, add transitions; and 6) compile and export.
